David works in the Government Innovation team, part of Nesta's Innovation Lab leading on the development of the CITIE (City Initiatives for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship), a framework to help city governments develop policy to support innovation and entrepreneurship.

Biography

Previously David led on the design and development of the first Challenge Prize Competitions under the EU Horizons 2020 programme, designing five thematic grand challenges with a value of €17m, across health, transport, bio-economy, creative materials and energy.
 
David also managed the £35 million Future Cities Demonstrator programme at the Technology Strategy Board. This demonstrated at scale, and in use, the additional value that can be created by integrating city systems and enabled businesses to test, in practice, new solutions for connecting and integrating city systems.

David has an MEng in Civil Engineering and Italian from Bristol University, an MProf in Leadership for Sustainable Development from Forum for the Future and is a Chartered Engineer with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. He has helped developed the UK government’s Zero Carbon Homes policy and lectured at UCLs Bartlett School of Architecture.

In 2011 David moved to Sri Lanka to co-author the first guidebook to responsible travel in Sri Lanka, Paradise Exorcised on behalf of Jetwing Hotels.

David is an amateur photographer and cyclist. He recently cycled Land’s End to John O’Groats and has dreams to cycle around the world.
