The speed of technology change, when combined with a broad-ranging lack of urban preparedness and foresight have not yet provided solutions to the growing nexus of interconnected urban problems—housing availability; natural resource depletion and ecosystem stress; inadequate education and health care; racial and ethnic inequalities. The coming decade could be the moment of opportunity, when we successfully harness technologies, improving on many of these dynamics. But to get there we must first answer a few basic questions:
